Awed by God’s sovereignty!

The other day, I perused through the social media platform of an acquaintance who has been through fire and water (according to me) as in Psalms 66:12. The page is full of praises and very hopeful Bible verses. Even in the current season of despair, he seems to have his heart fully rested in God. In as much as what he is going through must be too much for anybody to bear, I broke into praises and worship, awed that we still have modern day Jobs, who find full delight in God in the face of despair.

The Lord has also impressed in my heart through various channels on his sovereignty. He is God in whom all things hold- the maker of everything, the establish-er of kingdoms, through whom dynasties fall, and in whom all things hold. As Paul puts it in Romans 11:36, from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Ever wondered what to say when asked where your God is (maybe in such a time). You may have asked yourself the same question actually. The response as per the Psalmist (Psa. 115:3) leaves my mouth wide open and trembling; He is in Heaven; and He does whatever pleases Him. Imagine! I know I am not the only one who imagines that because He is a God of mercy and love; He is more likely to deal with us as we would wish — answer every prayer, keep us from every test and temptation, fight our battles in a way we can see with our eyes and part the waters we want to just walk through.

But how many of us are not only willing to, but will actually praise the Lord, when our loved ones are ailing? When the closest relationships are not working? When the jobs we are asking for, or the salary reviews are not forthcoming? How many times do we silently wish that the Lord remains the God of the good times alone, and are hence afraid, even to dare to think, that a season of testing may come? How many times do we ask Him to teach us how to trust and praise Him even in adversity, but keep hoping that the adversity never knocks? What will it take to rest in Him, in any season?

The Lord, in His sovereign power, is at work in all those seasons — in every yes, and in every no. For His glory.

Part two is loading. But meanwhile, the Lord is in Heaven; and He does whatever pleases Him. But all He does, He does in love, because of love. Praise the Lord.

  1. Hello!

Thanks Aggie for such encouraging words, I do ask myself such questions often. It’s a great reminder, Psalm 115:3…😍
