The clamor about unfinished fashion of clothes is weighing me down. We have actually moved from unfinished to rugged, meaning more exposing. Each day I walk in clothes stalls, the sellers are all shouting to us ‘Customer njoo uangalie unfinished…niko na unfinished’. Clothes that used to be worn by the insane…no wonder a friend says that those people are not insane, they went before us! what a pity.
We also seem to be appreciating a little bit shorter skirts, a little bit tighter pants; leggings are no longer being worn with dress-tops (I can’t comprehend when these came) and so forth. The cleavage can now be covered using a necklace! Nothing seems unacceptable. I once overheard somebody say that the men have to up their game and be stronger…for my dress is my choice. Modern day teachers of the word have to be careful of the context of the audience lest they push them away from the churches (Ooh no). They are called first world problems.
To all of us who call ourselves believers, we are a peculiar people, called forth to show the (excellence) praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. We are called not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds…to be peculiar! We can be smart and decent without exposure. We can stand up and chose to honor God with our bodies, with the cognition that our bodies are His temple.
We can choose to love our brothers, and to help them not sin. Love is our mark of distinction as believers. It should compel us to be considerate of them (even as people say they ought to be strong). Yes we can. We can stand up and indeed be peculiar, different for Jesus! My dress ain’t really my choice, it is what Jesus is pleased with
