My Wedding is Here!

Today is June 19, the year of the Lord 2019. It is 2 days to my wedding day.
I have waited for the Lord, these 25 years that I will walk down the aisle in a church wedding and in white, from the inside out. He has done it for us, and His deeds are marvelous in our sight.

I do not have much to write, I have some pressure here and there, but I must share the last blog while single.

Dear Sisters in the Lord, Wait patiently on God for a husband. Do not rush, or give in to mere men thinking you will win them over by your bodies. It is the Temple of the Holy Spirit which must be honored. As you love the Lord with all your soul and mind, so love Him with all your body as well. This applies to men as well.

I remember in my pursuit for chastity back in campus, I once tried making an announcement in class that we were having a chastity emphasis week and that everyone was invited. I almost regretted making that announcement. One guy hilariously announced that he will be available for the walk to meet virgins. The ladies were not left behind either; during group discussions, one lady challenged me with, ‘Agnes, what guarantee do you have that you will get a virgin man? They are all wasted away’.

At that moment, just like David the Psalmist, my feet almost stumbled, my steps nearly slipped… I started considering their ‘prosperity’: they have no trouble, they do not have to discipline their bodies, they do not have to fight the fight against lust and fornication, they can exchange their bodies for worldly pleasures like money, yet Believers can only languish in waiting.

Then God met me at the point of my need; I was to honor Him for who He is, not for what He was to give. (Do not forget that Prophet Hosea was asked to marry a wife of harlotry so he can demonstrate God’s love in a land that had committed great harlotry by departing from the Lord). I must submit to His authority, for as John Piper says, He is most glorified when I am most satisfied in Him. Not for my gain, but for His Glory. Not for me to get a virgin, but for His Name’s sake.

It may look like Christians are therefore meant only to endure. This couldn’t be further from the truth. He gives us Grace. We live each day. We date for 1, 2, 3… 7, 8 years in full honor of Him. We train our bodies to submit to His authority. He helps us put to death the desires of the flesh. And hey! A day like this comes.

I do not know much, but I am convinced beyond doubt that marriage is a shadow of the relationship between Christ and the Church, as in Eph. 5:32. Husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, Wives submitting to their Husbands as we do to the Lord.

Maybe it starts at the wedding. Let’s take a sneak-peak into my wedding. It is going to be a very, very simple wedding. What will make it special is that the Lord will be present. That we will have a joyful worship in the service, and great dance in the afternoon as we celebrate His goodness. I feel in my heart that the same way I will walk down that aisle and you all will rise and cheer and so forth, the same way it will be in Heaven. Angels will be cheering us up with ‘well done good and faithful servants’. We definitely will be in white and golden and silver crowns as we gather to worship Him till eternity. And that is why I will have a tiara crown. That Heaven going day must be demonstrated here.

And we will sing Mataifa Yote, Yatakusanyika…Mbele Zako Bwana Mwokozi.

Has dating Bramwel for close to 2 years been a walk in the park? Not always. Many days we turned each other ‘on’. Have I desired to be cuddled, kissed, bla bla? Not more than once. So what has kept us?

The prize set before us. The Lord singing over us. His Glory, our delight. The daily commitment that we will not commit fornication; for we are bought at a precious price, the constant reminder that all other sins a man does are outside his body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body (1 Cor. 6:18), the daily desire to have an undefiled marriage bed. We have held hands and prayed before a date. We have prayed after a ‘long’ hug, repented and asked God to help us in our next meeting… And we have made it.

We have fought the good fight. We have finished the race…and kept the faith. It is possible friends. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding or strength. Pray, for or against anything.

We are also aware that Marriage is authored by God, and being a shadow of the things to come, is constantly fought by the enemy. This far we have experienced enough setbacks; provision, parental support, name them. We have started another fight. We can do all things through Him who gives us strength.  Apart from God I have no good thing, but with Him I will be Bram’s best friend. He will be more than I can ask for.

So would you pray with us that we will fight this one and still emerge winners, having kept the faith?

Would you want to be available to celebrate with us this victory on 22nd June at CITAM ClayCity and later FOCUS Centre?

Is there a way you would want me to walk with you?
