Life is seasonal. There is a time for everything. And that everything revolves. Joy. Love. Satisfaction. Peace. Provision. Good uninterrupted devotions, fruitfulness, then… mourning. Hurt. Dismay. Hunger. Round and round it goes.
Look around. We are currently in the mango season. There are fleshy, juicy mangoes all over. The prices are low; we can take mango juice as often as we want. Meanwhile, the tomatoes that we were buying a kilo at 50/- just the other day are currently going at 100/- or more. The cabbages went and came, the peas are back to 50/- per glass, after enjoying them at 25/- for a while.
God has been teaching me about resting in him. Relaxing, as Christina Shusho sings.
We really do not know what tomorrow holds, what will cost what. Whether we will be happy, provided for or not. But we do know that He will make a way. He will provide a way out, He will supply enduring grace (refuge under the shadow of His wings – Psa 57:1), or an answer (Psa 66:19 – He listened and attended to the voice of my prayer).
I came across a sermon where the speaker was talking about Jacob; born and blessed of God even before birth, he kept on striving and struggling. He thought nothing will work without his involvement; he had to strive with his brother before birth as to whom left the womb first, he had to stoop low for Esau when he pursued him at the desert, he had to come up with a selective breeding process to increase his ‘wages’ and so forth. When asked by Pharaoh about his life, he responds that “… My years have been few and hard, ..” (Gen 47:9) yet he had already lived 130 years.
People of God, God has called us to trust Him and to rest. Not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Phil 4:6-7
Psa. 127: 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves 😊.
It does not mean we shouldn’t rise up to work (if anything we are to work with all our strength as unto Him, Col 3:23), but this is the word: We shouldn’t strive and struggle imagining that we (our wisdom, our strength, our influence, our workplace etc) can save us. Blessings only come when He has willed.
So from today, rest, relax in Him. Enjoy the fruit of your labor, Ecc 5:18. Yes! Labor. Work hard with all your might. Become the best employee because of your hardwork. Teach your children that hard work pays. But do not think at any point that your struggle alone will help; It is the Lord who goes before us and … satisfies the desire of every living thing, Psa 145:16.
It is He who blesses. Who refills. Who holds our future. Unless we have let Him take the control and glory for our blessings, we will put our trust in chariots, and fall from His grace. You do not have to die because of that promotion. You do not have to compromise or stoop so low. He knows you need to marry. He knows how much income is sufficient for you. So rest in Him. Trust Him. Work as unto Him.
I chose to rest. To Trust. To relax! In the hard season; relax. In the storm; rest. In the desert; rest.
